If you have a specific home in mind, ask your real estate agent. It depends how well insulated the home is and how old the AC unit is.

We're in a new 2200 sg ft house and just got our bill for the hottest month of the year - it was 175.00 from TECO. Extrapolate that to a 5000 sq ft house and my estimate is about 400 for the hottest month of the year.

Adding that we are both retired and "at home" all day. I set the temperature at 75 during the day and 74 overnight.

Our's for a 1900sqf was $296! The AC is old. We keep the temps at 75/76 during the day, not that that's what it actually is in the house, upstairs is always 80+ during the day, and 77/78 at night. So, we're not crazy to keep the AC at 70 or below. (I cannot imagine having to clean 5000sqf; I'll never get to go out!)

Forgot: the gas was some $30...that's what it always is in the summer. BUT If you have propane the situation changes dramatically. That is a LOT more expensive so stay away from that unless you like to throw money away.

OMG! If I extrapolate your cost to 500 sq ft, the cost is 780!!

This is why the OP should ask the current owner to see the utility bills or ask the builder to refer him to others with the same house in the community to get a reasonable estimate.

Thanks. It is being built so everything will be new energy efficient. So hopefully it wont be too bad. We're use to keeping the air on 79/80 during the day and 77 at night.

In that case, expect 300-400 in the hot months. Our TECO bill was about 125 this past spring.

Remember the homes in Florida have no insulation...so there's no such thing as keeping them "cool" in the summer or "warm" in the winter thanks to having great insulation; they're being built cheap and fast and with no care or concern to how people really live, (no storage other than the garage that should host a car), or how they should be living. I am assuming that at 5000Sqf you might have more storage, but usually the attic is useless here. No gutters either.

OP, congratulations on your new build in Land O Lakes! How wonderful to get to have a brand new energy efficient house! We looked at Connerton when it was first conceived and really liked their ideas and site plan, but then the housing market tanked and the development stagnated for awhile. They changed up some things, scaled down some of the plans, and brought it back to life. Their guesstimate at utility costs back then was $500.00 per month. Since your house is being built with energy efficiency/green standards your utility bills will be more reasonable than standard builds, but until you move in it'll be hard to know what your costs will be.

I just saw a utility bill for a home 4329 sqft and it was $ 539.- and it was a model home where right now only the A/C is on 24/7 but set for 76 F during the day and lower at night and no lights on unless someone is present since the furniture is all out.

The water bill was $ 535 for watering the lawn and keep it green and it is a pretty large size lot.

Btw Land O'Lakes may have reclaimed water and that will lower your water bill a lot.

that couldnt be further from the truth.

I have a 2600 sqft house that was build last year and our highest bill (other than the month our AC was damaged) was under 200 dollars and we keep out house at 73 degrees all of the time. (we had a leak in the AC coil which made it not cool well at all and our bill hit 300, that his been resolved and were back to the 150ish range again )
