Anyone have any recommendations for a decent provider for my 2 kids (Ages 2 and 5) in the land o lakes area? found some nice schools but paying 1600/month for the 2 of them seems a little outrageous to me?

Sounds like you are overpaying. There are other schools with better prices out there.

I thought that was cheap. I am a professional caregiver for children and receive $1000 per week for one child.
Assuming you work a 40 hour work week, that comes to 50 cents an hour per child. How much cheaper can it possibly be???

1000/40=25
I've got 25$ per hour per child. Where 50 cents are coming from?

I think that is about what you will pay for decent childcare in the area. Sorry OP, I know it is expensive.

1000 per week per child wouldn't be bad if my laundry was done and house was clean too lol..

I budgeted around 1000 per month but that extra 600 makes a big difference.. I am not paying anything now as the wife is a stay at home mom but she is looking to get back in to the work place so we are exploring options.

BTW, looking at it by a per hour basis would not be logical as I am looking at a day care center with 20+ other kids sharing in the cost of just a few teachers. Not saying its not worth that amount or that your not worth 1000... Its just not worth that much to me..

I hear you. You also need to take into consideration if one of your children becomes ill, the day care center will call you at your job and have you come pick the child up. My daughter goes through this all the time and is very difficult on her. Plus you have to pay them regardless of your child being out sick or not Very difficult on your generation. Good luck to you

To be fair, all kids will get sick during their first year around large group of kids being there all day long. If you keep a child at home till school, he/she will be sick a lot during VPK/Kindergarten. This is the basic of building their immune system. All my kids went through this and even though they we ill, it wasn't too bad. After first year in daycare they rarely became sick at all, and in fact by looking at all kids in their classrooms it wasn't difficult to tell who was new to daycare world I mean new kids had runny noises or coughing, but mine were just fine.
I agree it might be beneficial for kids to be with parent/nanny at home first year, but after kids turn 1 it's very good for them to be around kids their age to develop social skills.

We went though handful of daycare center in Wesley Chapel/Land o Lakes, with prices ranging from cheap to extremely expensive, and unfortunately price doesn't mean anything. Another side note, some daycare centers delete negative comments (on google, on yelp, yellow pages online), so be aware!

$52,000/per year per child? who is affording that?

Back to OP, I think $200/week per child is reasonable from what I see around. We personaly decided to stay at home until Kido went to elementary school. Wasn't worth it for us missing the critical time of a kid before age 5. Others may have different opinion but that was us.

Good luck!
