Cheryl,
From what you wrote here I'll bet your resume lists all the great jobs in the past 10 years and what good things you did for each company. Correct me if I'm wrong. Since you state that you've had cross training why don't you try a more "functional" rather than the "historical" form of resume? The functional model emphasizes your skills and how you can use them to enhance the company's bottom line. That's always the focus. You'll probably have to do an application anyway so your experience can go there or you can do a second page on the resume where you just list the jobs and dates so they can verify them. It also won't emphasize the years of experience bringing your age into focus. They can see you're not a kid so they know that you've been working for a while. Where are you putting you DOB? That's one of those things they aren't allowed to ask until AFTER employment so if it's on the resume, get it off NOW. Just don't answer it on the application. if they say anything, I guess you're cooked but maybe they won't. I've found that some places that use standard printed forms have had a supply from since before EEOC and they've even told me not to put in the DOB
Best wishes for the Oncologist's office. Let us know.

As far as age goes, The question is not asked "how old are you" but they have your DOB and the # of years experience you have, so a moron could figure it out. What I do have is a broad base of knowledge and cross training and could fit very nicely in many areas. In my previous employment with a Durable Medical Equipment Company (specializing in Home Oxygen) I went from entry level retail sales to delivery/inventory control/purchasing, to customer service and CMN Coordination/ Documentation Specialist. I was responsible for all chart review and obtaining the necessary forms required to met medical coverage (RX, Certifications, or Test Data). As far as applying to Tampa Companies, it may become necessary, but I spent the last 10 years driving an hour to work everyday and I would prefer something closer. Also the price of gas is a facter.
I did finally get an interview with an Oncology office and I am really looking forward to being made an offer, but I won't know for a few days.
Thanks to all for the in put!

Hi Jessima,

Well, I did get a call back and had my references checked at the Oncology office ( which are excellent), and was led to believe I would be made an offer. But alas, nothing has happened. It has been a week since my references were checked and I would think common curtesy would have them give me a call to say that the position was filled so I could focus my attention on other positions. But I suppose curtesy is a vanishing trait. Anyway the search goes on and your idea about a functional resume is a good one, I think I will try it today. Thanks for all the advice.

Cheryl

Call them and ask.. It seems these days that it does take forever. One thing you might try after an interview is to send a follow up letter. Make sure it is printed on good quality paper.
Nice touch and most youngsters don't do that.

Good Luck.. keep us posted we are all pulling for you

Default sorry about the Onc.

people here are very rude in that way. I think you can pretty well forget it when they say "we have to check your refs." That's pretty much code for "look someplace else." They know there's no such thing as a "reference check" becasue of privacy laws. When they call a previous employer, all that place ca do is verify that you did work there and when. They can't say anything about your performance or even why you were let go if you were. I hope the functional resume helps.

This may not be your first choice, but what about a school district? Pinellas county school district is most likely looking for a number of support staff. Teacher assistants, Cafeteria managers, and clerical positions as well. While you may not have experience in these fields, Im sure you can sell yourself. You sound confident and energetic and you might blend well in this type of position. The main reasons I suggest this are they are always looking, and they are stable, secure jobs. The pay might be crappy, but you have stability, pension, and other benefits; things that are really important in an economy like today
