Sadly it's not the pitpulls' fault that it was bred to be vicious; it was humans who did that.

But here we are now with pitbulls that kill humans. I understand pitbull owners who try to defend the breed, but statistics clearly show that pitbulls are a danger to society as a whole.

Sadly (again), the breed needs to be made extinct. I'm not for rounding up all pitbulls and putting them down, BUT laws should make breeding them illegal. And laws should also regulate how current pitbulls can be housed and limit their contact with anyone other than their owners. Severe punitive and criminal (jail) penalties should apply to any owner whose pitbull harms a human.

What you don't understand is that the big time news conglomerates will call any dog in a dog attack a "pit bull." Whether it's an actual pit bull or not. It's no different than when they did it to Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Akitas, Mastiffs, Great Danes, Chows, and Huskies. Eventually, pit bulls wont be talked about and we will go on demonizing another breed of dog.

Here's the thing … pitt bulls have been deemed by numerous sources as being one of the most dangerous breeds. Most of the violent dog attacks are by pitt bulls. This breed is built to attack fearlessly, to bite, and hang on. Even the sweetest pitt bull can "snap" and launch into attack mode. I owned a part pitt part boxer years ago. (I did not know she was part pitt until long after we bought her. I would have NEVER purchased her knowing she had any trace of pitt bull in her bloodline.) She was the sweetest dog, but she would attack any other unfamiliar dog she came in contact with. Unfortunately, we had to put her down when she bit my daughter in the face. My daughter was not doing anything to the dog - she just walked past her while she was lying on the floor, and the dog leapt up and bit her. The problem is not so much that they bite, it's that when they bite they cause serious harm because of their powerful jaw structure. They lock on and try to snap bones. Yes, smaller dogs can be very nippy and unpleasant, but when they bite they wouldn't do the kind of damage a pitt bull would do.

I wish they'd outlaw the breed altogether.

Unfortunately it's probably going to take a lot more deaths for any outlawing occurs but the pits are certainly doing their part to uphold their well deserved reputation. There's a serious mauling or killing almost weekly now. Of course FL is always late to the table on important issues but other states are starting to prosecute owners of vicious dogs and get the idiots behind bars where they belong.
