The first school that I attended was wooden and had 6 classrooms. I don't make more than 3 calls a month, a cell phone is not justified. I don't want to go through learning to use one.

T-Mobile has a device called "Line Link" that is similar to Magic Jack. Consumer Cell has a device that you plug a regular land line phone into and it connects using a wireless cell phone signal.

No land line.
Cell, carry it mostly for emergencies or for texting family/friends who mainly text. Low cost tracfone is good enough for us.
Skype...this is our main 'phone' as it rings on our computers no matter where we are in the world (we travel internationally quite a lot). Also great for video calls.

I agree with you on the sound quality, but these days a verizon landline has no appeal (at least to me). You have to pay for "extras" like callerid, and unlisted numbers (which keeps the phone spammers away).

I cancelled my landline after having it for 30 years. I liked it as an emergency Internet backup, but if I need that I'll get a freedompop 4g "gizmo". New verizon "land lines" may be based on their fios and rely on a small battery in case of a power outage. With the old copper landlines, the central office provided power to your phones.

As other's have mentioned, consider a voip solution.

I use https://www.google.com/googlevoice/about.html (free for calls to US and Canada) with

https://simonics.com/service (free after 5.99 setup fee).

You just have to buy and configure an ATA, for example Unlocked Linksys SPA1001 FXS VoIP Phone Adapter ATA | eBay

Costs under $25.

This assumes you already have Internet access at your residence, and you don't need emergency 911 home locator service.

Alternatively, would a digital phone from Brighthouse sound better than a cellphone?

Thanks..
