We know one home seller on here that lies like a rug with nothing ever bad to say about the area. Talk about seeing thru someone.

At least you know where to get your supply.

Never did drugs. Don't even drink unless someone pays for it.

When we rented apartments years ago (17 years ago to be exact), our monthly payments were going up after each year and the increase we had was 60-80. New people moving to exact same apartments paid less than we were paying after leaving for 2 years.

Yep rents are out pacing mortgage payments due to rates being at an all time low. Problem is that most renters pay so much for rent they can't save...so how do they buy?

There are DPA programs in Hillsborough and Pasco counties...Income limits apply but no payback if you live in the home 5 years... needless to say it won't last forever.

I finally moved.. to another state. I could never afford a house in Tampa on what I made (senior mechanical designer). I moved to east Tennessee 8 years ago with my fiance' (now wife). Now, I make 50% more than I did in Tampa (exact same job) and we bought a 1600 sq.ft. house 25 minutes outside downtown for $100 more a month than we were paying in rent up here.

I was born and raised in Tampa area, 35 years, and it seems like it gets worse every time I go back. I wonder how far ahead I would be if I moved sooner. Not trying to bad mouth Tampa, but wages are bad, housing is terrible.

There is a rental crisis nationwide because of lack of supply and builders not building enough and what they are building is almost entirely luxury.

You guys are talking about two completely different phenomena which have no relation to each other.

The trend of average rents going up is macroeconomic, based on supply and demand. We should not interfere with the broad marketplace as it sets prices. Such intervention leads to all sorts of dislocations and distortions.

This is a scam which could reasonably call for government intervention if voters called for it. This has a negative social effect. Apartment dwellers are forced to move from one complex to another, rather than establishing roots in a local community.

I own a two bedroom, one bathroom condo on 4th street North in St. Pete. Since I live in NY, I rent it out to a very good tenant for $700 month. I have been told that I could get more, but, since it is hard to find good reliable tenants, I have not raised her rent in years. I break even at that is enough for me until I can retire and live there myself.
