Carlton Arms North isn't bad. My husband lived there before we were married so I spent some time there. It is in the general area of the university but closer to I75. According to its website studios are $737-$797. No idea if they have any available of course.

Honestly it might not be any different in Tampa for you based on the info you have given us. Be careful with your decision.

The taxes are WAY WAY lower there and the rent is MUCH MUCH cheaper. I will still have to work two jobs because, well, that's just America, but at least I can have my own place I can have some fun in. I can't have that in Chicago for less than $1200 a month in a non gang neighborhood.

If $800 a month for rent is stretching it (which would still cause you to live in a far out area), and you will have to work two jobs to survive, then how is that any different from your life now in Chicago?

Don't say that out loud. The people in Westchase and Citrus Park might hear you.

Seriously ! If you are looking for affordable do not look at Tampa Bay metro no longer. If this is a point of reference the Apartment Complex I moved to in Largo (Pinellas County) in 2001 was 500 a month for one bedroom and it was very quiet a lot of older people. I was 25 at the time and probably the youngest person out of any my neighbors. The Same exact Complex in 2017 with no upgrades is 1000 a month. Also had a few shootings this year, and of course buildings got older by 16 years and its now ghetto, but 500 dollars more! Also insurances have skyrocketed over the last 5-10 years.

The only thing that increased in the Tampa area since 2001 is the criminal element, homelessness ,the tourist traps, traffic and the cost of living! Lived in Both Hillsborough and pinellas over 15 years and moved out last summer. Best thing I ever did. You can say I am being negative. But Just being honest!
