I was hit twice (rear ended), both times on the way home from work. Ironically, it was on the same curvy, hilly, road, with many pot holes, both times.

I fell twice on my front steps during the last winter I lived up there. Both times, the steps had been either shoveled, salted, or both. I lived off of a main road. After one snowstorm, I slid right out of our parking lot onto the road. Even though that road was plowed, it was on a hill, so it was hard to stop the car. Also, if the snow was deep, the plows would often push the snow to the sides of our driveway. This would make it hard to see oncoming traffic.

Despite having a good heating system and maintaining it, it failed during a particularly cold night in January one year. Luckily, my children were with their father that weekend, and I did get it fixed.
It was expensive to fix, it was expensive to pay the heating bill, especially as a single mother at the time.

The lack of sunshine, especially during the winter, was also hard to deal with at times. The sunny days during the spring, summer, and fall, can be lovely. However, It can get very hot and humid during the summer also, so you need air conditioning as well as heat.

These are just a few of the reasons for moving south.

Yup. There's a LOT more negatives to that climate than ours.

Doing some work at a Salvation Army on the metal roof top at 1230 in the afternoon in Clearwater yesterday. You could feel the heat coming through your boots. Worked up a nice sweat, I will take that any day to a cold rainy day.

To me the worst is when it's 32 and raining. The snow falls through the air but melts and falls as rain, then it re-freezes when it hits the ground.

That's an ice storm and that is the worst.

I am a Florida native, now living in Sarasota. This past week hasn't been bad at all for me, low 90's but a real nice breeze off the bay. I ride my bike daily at 12:00- 1:00 p.m. I despise weather that is even a LITTLE bit cold, heat suits me just fine. When it's too hot I just stay inside.

I am a Florida native and I detest this extreme heat (anything over 85). But I detest the extreme cold (anything below 50) more.

You don't have to shovel heat.
Gotta remember in the southwest the temps are high, but the humidity is very low unless it's monsoon season. It makes a difference.

Nobody except maybe you consider Montreal weather to be perfect.

The vast majority of humans hate cold weather. And they eventually leave it. The ones who stay in cold climates stay because they don't have a choice to leave.

You are an exception.
