Hello, I'm a prospective student of UT and had some general questions.. Is UT in a nice and safe area of Tampa? Does UT have a good reputation in the Tampa area? I'd just like to hear some general reactions to the school..

Thanks!

What program? I love the emat program. BUT..

The people who work in the admissions office are half pass retarded and no help. I do not mean the students either I am talking about the counselors. I go to ask a question instead of helping me the woman just looks at me and nods then rushes me out the door. I ate there twice the food was the most horrific thing I have EVER tasted. And the people working in the dining halls are very rude. The school is located downtown and is surrounded by sketchy areas.

I am a professor there. My perspective is, obviously, not as a student. Some of the food is bad, as nitokenshi said; but there are many options and it's way, way, way better than anything I had to eat at all three colleges I attended for undergrad and grad school.

As for the location, it's downtown. So the campus itself is very pretty, many of the dorms are more apartment than dorm room, and the grounds are kept very clean and green. However, it is surrounded by areas that are not as nice, and I would not go roaming around or off campus late at night alone. But that's going to be true of any urban campus (same goes for USF).

Some of the programs are better known and better funded than others---so it really depends on what you plan to study!

I'd use the search function of this forum. You'll find a few threads that way - discussing housing for U of T. I'm considering buying a condo in the area (Harbor Island) - so I have the same thoughts about safety in the area.
