Yeah I recently went to BG, and was reminded of why I never cared for the areas surrounding USF/East of Dale Mabry. Good old Suitcase City.

South of 275 is generally nice though.

In fairness to TNC, I worked at a school there, and was pleasantly surprised that the area surrounding it was very stable and solid, consisting of mostly working class families and some retirees. There were even a few faculty members that lived in the surrounding neighborhood and had for some years. It just seems to be hit or miss.

The area that's long intrigued me in Tampa proper is Temple Terrace. There are some really neat areas around there, and some cool "retro" sort of 1960/70s homes. Portions of it are even walkable and park-like.

I'm not saying I would live there, but what I've seen I thought was pretty cool.

Yeah, what I said about Dale Mabry doesn’t apply to South Tampa.

TNC isn’t all bad, but it has been getting worse. I have family off Waters and the neighborhood seems mostly safe. Areas around Hillsborough generally seem worse. I can’t really point to one place that’s comparable to what you’ll find in the bad neighborhoods of east Tampa. Some of Citrus Park might be though.

As for Temple Terrace, I haven’t spent much time there but I understand they’re trying to reinvent themselves and create a downtown. I’m pulling for them.

I spent a good amount of time exploring east Tampa (not sure why), I guess because I lived in Ybor, and I felt concerned for my safety the majority of the time. I’m actually lucky I didn’t get robbed or worse. I’d advise anyone to avoid that entire area honestly.

East Tampa is generally sketchy. I can't think of any part of it that is marginally better.

Wow this post went from Ybor being sleepy during the day to calling out all the lower income and working class areas as sketchy. Very classy... Now back to a reality check for some....

Not trying to demean people in those areas, I’m just expressing that I felt quite uncomfortable in most of east Tampa.
