Does anyone have experience regarding Corbett Prep or TCMS in Tampa. My child is entering 6th grade and I have the option to send her to either school. What are the strengths and benefits of either. What would make you choose one over the other. We are interested in a balance between strong academics and extracurricular. We also are looking to a school that would challenge my child as they are quite advanced. Any input is much appreciated.

Corbett. I worked with the former headmistress at Corbett 10-15 years ago and was very impressed with the school. They do a lot of cultural immersion and related things that are really cool and definitely quite different from other similar schools.

A wonderful environment for learning, some great faculty.

Thank you MortonR and Sinatras for your posts. With your input from this post and prior older posts I was able to be confident in my decision in Corbett Preparatory.

I know it's late, but for other people with similar question... These two schools are very different. One if private and one is charter. While it's pretty easy to get to private school, you really need to live in Hills to get to charter via lottery. TCMS has been ranked in top 10 middle schools in FL before and it still has pretty solid program, however, TCMS is not for everyone as not all kids can handle that school academically. Those who can are going straight to IB for high.

I would add that you must have established residency before you can apply to a charter school in Hillsborough County as well unless they've changed the rules. May not apply in this situation, but for people who might be new to the area it could matter.

I have no idea what the tuition is for Corbett these days, but 15 years ago it was steep.

I know i'm way late, but wanted to add my 0.02.

I have no experience with Corbett, but i have a lot of friends who have kids in TCMS. it is an IB charter school and is very intense academically. That said, the kids that go through that program come out VERY prepared for the next step. I have been very impressed with the academia coming out of that school and the things those kids are learning and doing. My kids didn't make it to the lotto in time so we stayed in normal middle school.

Highly recommend TCMS.
