My husband is a GSM at a multi line dealer. We live in a small/medium town in the mid Atlantic region. We are looking to possibly relocate and Florida is our first choice. I spent a lot of time there as a kid with family in Merritt Island. I've always wanted to live there. I would like to be in Orlando but we would consider the Jacksonville area or Tampa as well.

My husband and I have both looked all over the internet for positions in those areas. He has contacted a couple of places he found online in the last few days but we haven't heard much. I know it is difficult to get a management position from the outside usually. I know at his store they always promote from within.

Anyway, if anyone has any advice or reccomendations they would be greatly appreciated. My husband has over ten years experience in the same dealership with 8 of those years in management. He's currently a GSM but has held F&I and secondary and both used and new car management positions. He is excellent at what he does and would be a great asset to any dealership. He would like to find something as a sales manager or GSM but would consider F&I at the right dealership. Reputation in the community is also important to him.

I know he needs to get his resume out there. I guess I'm looking to see if anyone has any advice like dealerships to stay away from, or any that you know are particularly good. Maybe someone knows one that is hiring or something. Maybe someone knows first hand that Tampa is or is not the right place to be looking for this kind of work, etc.

Thanks!

He needs to make calls and talk to the people who work at the dealers in the cities you like. Where the good leads come from, he flies down to meet and shmooze. From that should come one opportunity.

He should have his resume done tonight or tomorrow hopefully at the latest. He had to start from scratch b/c he's been at his job for ten years now.

I went online and looked up dealers in Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville. Those are the areas that we are looking at right now. It would be nice to be able to chose which one to live in based on the city itself, which would be hard, I think they all look nice. But I think we are going to have to go with wherever he can get an offer from.

So I guess he's going to start making some calls as soon as his resume is done and he is able to forward it to them as well. He's hoping to make some contacts and then maybe make a trip down for a few days and hit up all the three areas trying to talk to people.

I know we have one dealership here in town, that although it does a lot of business, is known to be a bad place to work. The owner was so bad he was even known outside of the car business as being a horrible man to work for. Anywhere like that down there?

I know there are many dealerships close to Brandon (Hillsborough County and close to Tampa) and on St Rd 54 in Wesley Chapel, the dealerships are lined up next to each other and it is Pasco County which means lower property taxes than in Hillsborough County. For the rest I have no info on which one is good or bad and most of them are opened in the last few years since this is a growing area which is very good for employment...I guess...In October the new mall will be opened and 2 Hospitals are planned to be build so this area is booming and many good home deals since many people had an ARM for their '05 build home and can't afford their mortgages anymore and have to much debt to get the bail out. Bad for them but it can be good deal for you or others.
Good Luck and maybe you can google car dealers in Wesley Chapel, Fl, 33543 or 33544
