Don't know of any shops in Westchase per se. I recommend Cox's Seafood on North Dale Mabry. Its about 1 block north Sligh on the right hand side next to a small convenience store/market. Oceanic Asian Market just north of downtown Tampa also carries whole fish with a couple of live fish tanks even.

Hope that helps.

What kind of seafood do most people eat in Tampa? Example, most eat salmon, halibut, pacific cod, razor clams and crab. Very interesting topic for me.

Around here, Gulf grouper is very popular as it's local. However, they have been placing fishing bans on grouper. Bad for local seafood restaurants as grouper sandwiches are very popular in the more touristy spots. Oysters are popular as Appalachicola is a major oyster producing area in NW Florida. I personally like red snapper because that's what the local Thai restaurants use for their whole fried fish specials.

Funny you mention seafood available in the West Coast. After finishing grad school, I did a one year fellowship over in California. I definitely enjoyed the seafood such as halibut, ahi tuna, dungeness crab, and cioppino fish stew. I went to a conference up in the Monterrey peninsula in May of 2008 and every night my bosses were treating me to dinner. I was in seafood heaven.
