Teaching 5th Graders (background, class, school, highest)

Some background, my mom had been teaching 10+ that's but highest grade she taught was 3rd grade

I was transferred to a fifth grade class in a new building and I have some questions

1. How do I motivate them so that I can prevent behavioral issues?

2. I don't want to fall into the tap and that them " grown" but I don't want to baby them either. Any tips?

What is the behavior situation like overall at the school?

Has she had a training like "Capturing Kid's Hearts?" I just went through it and it was excellent!

The district as a whole is pretty high in behavioral issues I guess its more as a just in case. And no, she hasn't again, district does pretty redundant conferences
