It was really a thoughtful but odd gift. This student and his mom were one of my favorites.
I bet it was supposed to become soup!

So a gift card taped to a box of girl scout cookies would be appreciated as an end-of-year gift?
Okay, now you just made it even better. Girl scout cookies alone would be a great gift

Well, mine's not really strange, but it really moved me.

During my student teaching, I had a very nice LD kid (8th grade), and I was always the "point guy" for helping him out with reading and figuring stuff out. Well, one day, he came in with two apples from his parents' orchard. My heart almost melted in my chest. Here I was just helping answer questions, and I never thought that making time for him was a big deal, but it made a big difference to him.

I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, more or less, but if I had any doubts, that incident blew those doubts away.
