In California, your degree can be in anything. If it isn't part a pre-approved program that gets you out of the test, you have to pass the CSET. It's harder than the PRAXIS. You can major in say history, but if you know your math you can test it. If you pass the test you can get that certification. Of course you have to take the certification program, but you only take that once. Then you can add certifications if you can pass the test.
To clear things up, I have three different degrees from 3 different universities:
1. Bachelor's in Secondary Education
2. Master's in Education with emphasis in English & ESOL
3. Incomplete Bachelor's degree in Economics
I have contacted the board of education in TN and they told me I'd get a regular out-of-state license if I pass PRAXIS ESOL & PLT. I am not interested in getting a license in my current state because I do not plan on staying here. I am going to contact each of the boards to get the information.
