After looking at the beautiful pictures of Morristown. It made me think of something that is slightly important to me. One of few things I love about FL and that is Sunshine. Does TN go through long periods of cloudy, rainy, overcast days. If so how many in row? Is it like the whole winter?

I am not expecting it to be like FL Sunny 300 days of the year and it would not stop me from moving but I was just curious. The 3 general areas I am looking at are around Chattanooga, Nashville, and Knoxville(/GAG). Sorry not the city, but the University located there, I am sure its a great city but the whole TN Volunteer thing gets me being a Gator

Oh, you're a Gator. Then it rains 364 days a year.

(Just kidding. Kinda.)

The days vary here. There's lots of sunny days, but also rainy days (especially in the spring and fall), overcast days, and sometimes a few snowy days. Generally it varies from day to day, and won't be one kind of day or weather for weeks on end. The one exception is maybe summertime when it is mostly sunny. This year we would appreciate a few more rainy days.

Being from Florida, and now living in TN (on the platuea), this winter was very hard. It was cloudy just about every day (atleast it seemed that way). I do remember a couple of sunny days, but there weren't many. I like the cold, but I also like seeing the sun. It wasn't like that 2 winters ago, we definitely had more sunny days.
I can remember a couple of summers in FL when it would rain for months as well.

Yea I am sure it seemed like it was cloudy every day in the winter. It gets cloudy a couple days here and I start missing the sun even though most of the time even in winter it is too hot to enjoy them. So that will take some getting use too.

I haven't made a study of it, but a typical week in winter (mid November to mid February) in Nashville might include a couple of sunny days' two or three days where it's lightly overcast or where it's sunny a bit and overcast a bit; and a couple of days where it's either heavily overcast or raining (or possibly snowing, although it barely snowed this year). And sometimes the day will vary from hour to hour.

What are the TV stations up there? I am sure they have a weather cam. I have found a couple already web cams already.

In Nashville there's WTVF (CBS), WSMV (NBC), WKRN (ABC) and Fox (as well as PBS and the cable cannels). Yeah, they have multiple weather cams, but I find you can barely tell what the weather is like by looking at them (it's always darker on the cams than it really is by looking out the window). TDOT has traffic cams all around town. You can go to their webiste and click the location of various sections of the roads.

My next-door neighbors are from Florida. They are wonderful people, but they proudly fly their Gator antenna flag on game days. They do not, however, venture out of their driveway. And not one of us in the neighborhood have any idea how that broken bottle of Orange Crush got underneath their tire.

Just kidding!

You will not enjoy the same sunny weather you have gotten used to in FL. After many years in sunny L.A., I am still adjusting. I have had to break down and buy an umbrella, but on the positive side, I am saving money on sunscreen and if I lose my sunglasses, it does not cause the same stress it once did. It all balances out. You'll miss the sunshine, but you won't miss the "sunshine tax." No kidding!

It's a little unusual anywhere in TN for there to be an extended stretch (say, 5+ days) of gloomy weather w/o even a peek of sunshine, and that type of weather (i.e., cloudy/rainy) virtually never sets in for weeks at a time. Still, it's true that December & January are the cloudiest months in all 3 cities you mentioned.

On an annual basis, here's how those cities stack up in terms of the % of possible sunshine they actually get on average:

Knoxville & Nashville: 56%
Chattanooga: 57%

Some cities in FL:
Pensacola: 60%
Jacksonville: 63%
Tampa: 66%
Miami: 70%

Average # of partly cloudy or clear days annually:
Knoxville: 204
Nashville: 208
Chattanooga: 210

If you really want to delve into the numbers in detail:
Sunshine- Average Percent (%) Possible
Cloudiness - Mean Number of Days
