Thanks! You are too kind! One more cup of coffee and I'll be fine.

Does anybody have a good recipe for sausage gravy?

My husband does an incredible sausage gravy. Natives say it is the best they have ever had! I'll ask him for the recipe tonight.

When you get to Tennessee come visit me. I will teach you some southern cooking. Sorry, but I kind of chuckled when you said "recipe for sausage gravy?". I never thought about there being a recipe for it, I have always just thrown things together, but here goes my attempt at it.
  • Take a pound of sausage and brown it in a cast iron skillet, take sausage out of pan and set aside keeping the drippings in the pan
  • Add flour to the drippings in the pan, just toss some in and start browning it lightly, if it looks too oily throw in a little more flour... Do not let it burn
  • Add some water (maybe 4 cups) and a can of cream.
  • Stir Stir Stir all the time scraping the bottom and sides of skillet. Bring to a low boil and turn down heat.
  • If it thickens too much just add a little more water
  • Stir in your sausage, salt, and pepper and simmer a few minutes.

I like using a hot sausage. It gives the gravy more flavor. I hope this helps you out and good luck.

Thanks KamKam and hiknapster. I know it sounds a little silly when it is something you do all the time. But sausage gravy is not exactly a northern staple. The only place you get it up here is in some resturants, and believe me it's not the same. I know, I've had it in the south. So I appreciate your giving this yankee an education in sausage gravy.

KamKam, I would love to find someone to teach me southern cooking. I am a very good cook, but I'm a yankee cook, and I really want to learn to make southern dishes. Maybe I have some northern recipies you might enjoy we could trade.

Northcountrygirl, when you get to TN we can make a girls weekend of it. We will just have to find some guys willing to eat all that food we cook.

Ha! Sounds like a plan KamKam, thanks. I didn't really think there would be a lack of guys willing to be taste testers. We'll save you a seat alleycat.
