I'm considering moving to Tennessee but I would love to live somewhere where it snows sometimes. Does anywhere in Tennessee get snow?

One of the reasons we moved to Cookeville was the weather. Wanted somewhere that got snow now and then, but not long dreary winters with piled up dirty snow. Only had a few flakes so far, but the 10 day forecast has some snow possibly showing up on New Year's weekend. Of course, where you are in the state will have a big bearing on how much snow you get. Mountain City would get much more than Memphis.

I moved here in 1976. This area use to get a lot of good snows. I use to own sleds. We would go sledding, build snowmen, do donuts in the parking lots. Schools would be closed for days or weeks. It was fun. I've even seen a couple blizzards and ice storms shut everything down.

It can and does snow most places in the US. Several weeks ago there were snow flakes flying in the Florida panhandle. So yes it does snow in Tennessee. We don’t get much snow because we are in the south but it does snow. I believe 4-6 inches a year is average for most of Tennessee. Of course that is nothing compared to places like Wi, Mi, Mn, NY or New England where you can get 50-100 inches a year.

All of Tennessee can experience snow, as danielj72 said. Some parts get much more than others, and it largely follows elevation.

East TN and the mountains get snow, sometimes a lot in the mountains and places like Gatlinburg.(ski slopes)
I don't think west of Nashville TN gets much snow at all.
