hey everyone! I currently live I a very small town in orange county ny . my husband and I are looking for a great place to retire to. we love visiting the smoky mountain area and would like to maybe end up living there (or somewhere close by) where we live now is very safe virtually no crime rate. hardly any amenities but a true community feel. there is a lot to do within a short drive ny city is about an hour away. we are tiring of the cold weather and looking for something milder. we like a rural feel but not isolated from civilization. lol we don't need ultra excitement but enjoy the outdoors and cherish our American freedoms and rights. we truly do love where we live now but are being priced out with ny s terrible taxes and overbearing government can anybody suggest a spot in the smoky mountains area or just have any comments in general

Maryville, Tn would be worth a look for you. Asheville, NC is also popular. You could come and check out Sevierville, Maryville and Asheville in one trip. Spend a a day in each and a night in Maryville and one in Asheville. Tons to do and see and all close to the Smokies.
Good luck with your search.

You can look at Townsend if you want to be actually in the mountains. The traffic in Gburg would be tiresome.

I live in Townsend... and some years it's very cold and it does snow, but rarely lasts long. Climatic zone 7 ( 6a) depending on elevation. Look at a climate map of the US.

Maryville (Blount Co.) and the surround towns are all that you seek. Largest nearby city is Knoxville.
