My husband and I have our house up for sale here in Ocala, Marion County FL. We have to relocate because of the high taxes and insurance. FL has become a place where common everday people just cannot live in.

We have been looking into Athens TN. Can anyone give us some information on job market as well as home prices and other things that would make Athens a nice place to relocate too?

That is a perspective question. I personally do not like Athens at all. It seems very small and dirty with not much to offer, especially to new comers. But other folks on this forum thinks it is a great place.
Maybe ask some specific questions? Tell us a bit more about what you are looking for in a home town. As far as home prices, look up the homes for sale on realtor.com that will give you a good idea. For job market, take a look at the newspaper there: http://dpa.xtn.net/

Here is the link to city-data statistical info: //www.city-data.com/city/Athens-Tennessee.html
Hope that helps!

Wink Athens ,small town

J1: Unless you have good friends or relatives in that region , it does seem to
be small town like "M" suggested. Know OCALA is horse country and you did not mention if you also NEED open farm land.? Just to West and close to us is DAYTON along the rt #27 corridor, maybe a few more stores. Also right on
. the Tenn river seems to be growing. New house package including land can be had in the $100/SqFt range. Thus 1300 ' on acre =$130k. OLder street houses, and numerous mobile homes around so sure under $100K can be had. Total Ins and taxes per year at $1,000 is doable. Many of my close friends still in central Fla average $10,000 per year ins & Taxes. Also up & down the Rt #127 valley is good farm land and larger tracts are being sold off, either farm auction or wooded lumber holding co (Bowater) and sub-divided down into 5 acre tracts. One of my church friends moved in April from Ocala into Soddy at the Plantation sub-division, maybe half acre lots. Pvt Msg, at upper right of these pages, if we can answer any other questions.
