Hello neighbors/neighbors to be
I just wanted to write a little something to help those that are considering a move to the tri-cities area make an informed decision. I will briefly remark on a few subjects that we found to be important factors in our own decision to make this our home.
First & foremost is the general disposition of folks here. Now, we have only been here for about a month, so we haven't met everyone yet, but so far have not witnessed a bad attitude!!! Not at the store, not at the DMV, not even in TRAFFIC!!!!!, which is a big one to us , coming up from FL. I'm not implying that it is utopia, just that the relaxed atmosphere is very comforting & a world of difference from what we're used to.
Secondly, cost of living, which I'll just make some comparisons to Tampa,FL.
HOUSING
TAMPA: 1200 sq.ft. house = $1040 per mo.(mortgage)
CHURCH HILL: 1000 sq.ft. apartment = $560 per mo.(rent)
AUTO INS.
TAMPA: 2 veh./3 drvrs. = $2800 per yr.
CHURCH HILL: 2 veh./2 drvrs. = $700 per yr.
TAXES
TAMPA: ST.= none SLS.= 7%
CHURCH HILL: ST.= none SLS.= 9.5%
GAS/FOOD/CIGS.
About the same
JOBS(PAINTER)
TAMPA(6yrs): My personal avgs.
PAY= (res./com.)$15 p/h (ind.)$17 p/h
FINDING JOB= 1st call
TIME W/SAME CO.= >1yr
BENEFITS(res./com.)=none
(ind.) =/> 3 hldys.
=/> 1 wk. vac.
Hlth.Ins.= $80-$100 per wk (couple)

CHURCH HILL(1MO.)
PAY= (ind.)$12 p/h
FINDING JOB= 1st call
TIME W/SAME CO.= ???
BENEFITS(ind.)= 8 hldys.
= 1 wk. vac.
Hlth.Ins.= Co. Paid ( For employee, don't know what cost is for spouse at this time)

I hope this has been a help.
Now, for some pics
These first two are our view from the back deck.

Smile Very nice pics!

THank you for sharing your photos. Isn't Bay Mtn Park beautiful? I wish we could've spent all day there when we visited last weekend. We actually looked at a few lots in Church Hill and liked the area very much. Wish you both the best of luck and much happiness in your new place!!!

Great pictures. The views are spectacular. It truly does look like Gods' country. Thanks and keep em coming

I'm curious as to if you have found much difference in cost of groceries and electricity? Has there been any expense that you didn't expect or plan for...I'm thinking like some tax on something or a fee of some sort. Was there much wait time to get your utilities/phone etc on. ( I have heard of new people having to wait weeks and weeks in this area, but then it is growing at a very rapid pace....or was until this slump

Thank you

God's Country, indeed. Two of my buddies go to MTSU and when someone asks when a ball game is coming on TV they say, "8 God's Time, 7 Central."
