My wife and I are looking to buy some land in Selmer now, to retire on in 10 years or so. Right now about $2,000 per acre. What can you tell us about your new town?

We are pretty much home bodies, so a good Wal-mart and an TGIFridays type resterount is good enough for us.

What about growth in Selmer? Are there any places there we should not buy land?

Any help at all will be very much appreciated.

Not much as restaurants go. I see "Aunt "B" in Selmer and Snookum's Beef House in Henderson, the rest are your national chain of greasy fast food.... I do see a number of Mexican restaurants in the area and family style dinner's........

Their is a Walmart Super Center in town........

City-data.com (the web site you're on right now) has that information and more for every city in the country. For Selmer, go to its web site here:

Selmer, Tennessee (TN) Detailed Profile - relocation, real estate, travel, jobs, hospitals, schools, crime, news, sex offenders

I'm curious, Back Again, what made you decide to purchase property in Selmer when it looks like you don't know much about the place?

We have not yet decided, we are just thinking about it. Since we can retire anywhere, we have decided we want either TN or NC where my military pension will not be taxed, plus we would like low cost of living without a harsh climate. Remember, it is not what you make, but what you keep!

We are in the looking and learning stages and will be taking a trip up that way this fall just as a look-see. We want to buy now, or by Spring, in order to take advantage of the current housing market and if needed, the GREAT interest rates.
