[mod note]Be careful with this topic. Many of the comments at the original blog discuss religion and "intelligent design," both of which would be off-topic here. The replies here so far (#2-#17) are staying within the TOS.[/mod note]
From the link...
Quote:
Perry: [...]The State Board of Education has been charged with the task of adopting curriculum requirements for Texas public schools and recently adopted guidelines that call for the examination of all sides of a scientific theory, which will encourage critical thinking in our students, an essential learning skill.

White: Educators and local school officials, not the governor, should determine science curriculum.
Sounds like agreement to me.

But note the quote from the link...

Perry > The State Board of Education < the state
White > Educators and local school officials < ??? the fed and unions

My real concern is Matt Angle, George Soros, Fred Baron and Colorado.

From Pajamas Media...

The Shadow Party: How a Washington-Based Liberal Activist Is Trying to Turn Texas Blue (Whether Texans Want It or Not)

Quote:
The "Colorado Model" and George Soros' "Shadow Party" have both landed in Texas in the form of a shady activist with a plan: attack the GOP's largest stronghold and destroy its limited-government success story.
Roll Call also reported that Angle uses the Baron fortune to keep himself at the center of a web of Democratic intrigue...
Quote:
Hundreds of thousands of dollars that will ultimately end up funding state, federal and local campaigns for Texas Democrats this year will first churn through a nondescript row house on Capitol Hill that serves as headquarters for a tight network of organizations dedicated to electing Democrats in the Lone Star State.
Quote:
The Texas Democratic Trust was initially funded by trial lawyer Fred Baron and other wealthy individuals. Baron — who was finance chairman for the presidential campaign of former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) and admitted giving money to Edwards’ mistress to leave North Carolina — died in late 2008, but his widow and other trial lawyers have continued to fund the organization and the Lone Star Fund. The Lone Star Fund has also received large donations from several union political action committees, including the United Auto Workers, the National Air Traffic Controllers Association and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
Quote:
According to Texas Ethics Commission reports, available online, Angle has personally made over $700,000 from the operation. And nepotism is part of the program.
I may have been on the fence between Perry/White, tilting dramatically, but I'm not on the fence about progressive politics out of Washington DC.

Perry is nothing more than a Democrat (he was Ag Commissioner as Democrat) who plays a Republican.

I'm not stating party affiliation. But all he has done is become a ***** to special interests and fails to represent myself and my family of Texans. His only interest are those that are "special interests" to Rick.

I wish the best of luck to Bill White. He lies less.

I voted in the GOP Primary but for Kay Bailey H- for Governor. I know as an elected school board member that Perry pretty much tricked the average .. and not so smart Texan. What he did was set up all sorts of accountability standards which penalize local school districts if they don' t raise enough taxes. That way he can say he didn't raise taxes ( forcing districts to raise them). Its dishonest.

KBH had a horrible campaign but I've talked to her and she understands education.

White will be my second choice - he has lowered taxes in Houston and he cares about education. I don't feel comfy that labor likes him but they like all Dems. Perry is considered a buffoon both in and out of Texas.
Wait until you see the effect on college tuition in a year or two. Under Perry's hand picked commissioner of education (a crony) the Texas Education Agency is transferring all costs for accreditation of colleges--along with several other costs--from the TEA to the college being accredited. Thus, while cutting state funds to the TEA, the costs will go to the colleges, which will increase tuition at all state institutions of higher learning--both public and private. That is how Perry manipulates money and taxes. I am sure similar things are being done with the public schools.

He will be able to brag that he has cut the cost of the TEA without telling parents that they will be paying the cost as soon as the cuts are implemented.

Also, because of all of the people running in the last gubernatorial election, Perry won with only 39% of the vote. Because we don't have a run-off in the governor's race by Constitutional design, Perry won with a plurality, not a majority. It is safe to assume that the 61% who did not vote for Perry were actually voting against him, but since there were three candidates, the anti-Perry vote was split. Grandma and Kinky caused him to get the governorship. The Constitution needs to be changed to allow a run-off. I hope this doesn't happen again this time.
