Ive lived here all my life, its not that long, but long enough to be aware of what type of city it is and how The Valleys area is branded. McAllen IS a border town, but in the past few years the city has begun to attract more than fast food resteraunts to the area. Its growing in the arts and entertainment faster than proabally any other city in Texas of the same size. You should really visit this area sometime, its a nice area.

We were thinking about relocating to the McAllen area. One of the drawbacks for the area is the lack of things to do if our adult kids come down for a vacation. I was researching amusement parks and noticed that San Antonio has a Six Flags. It appears to be at least a four hour drive from the Valley. Has anyone taken day trips from the Valley to the park or is it just too far away?

A day trip to San Antonio is a little much, but it doesn't take over 4 hours either, more like about 3 1/2 hours. There are all kinds of things to do in and around San Antonio. It's a really easy drive from McAllen, all four lane (except for a few places where there is new construction). SA also has a SeaWorld not far from 6 Flags, as well.

Mcallen is nice. It is a rapidly growing small big city. It will have probably around 350,000 people by 2020. Hidalgo County will eclipse over 1,000,000 million in population by that same time. Trust me, if any body feels it is lacking in amenities or things to do it will soon be there. The developers can not and will not ignore the population boom going on there in Mcallen, Hidalgo County, and all of the Rio Grande Valley for that matter.
