I haven't been in Beaumont since 1998. I've heard the city really revitalized it's downtown area. I know at the time the area wasn't growing a whole lot. How is it now? What new projects has the city gotten since then?

I don't think there are any new projects, although they did propose doing something with the riverfront park area near downtown. Last I heard, the Crockett street district was having some tough times with at least 1 of the major tenants going under. For a while, Crockett street was small, but hopping. I haven't kept up with it much lately. I would love to see Beaumont grow, but they have been stuck in neutral for decades.

There is a night club in Winnie that is luring some oldies like Chicago and Kansas. Yes Winnie. Those are still big name bands even if they only have 1/5 of the original members. That can only hurt Beaumont as that is what Ford Park was meant for. Stuff like that used to play at the Civic Center, but those days are long past.

Thanks. I hope the city continues to grow as well.

My husband is in the USCG and just got stationed in Sabine TX. We will be living in Beaumont. How is it there? We have never been to TX and have lived in Florida out whole life. We have never been to the country before

Beaumont is a nice small city, but also has it's flaws. Also I would avoid Port Arthur which is southeast of beaumont at any cost.

Nederland, Port Neches, or Groves are nice areas, very safe and the shortest commute for your husband. You won't pay much for housing there but the nightlife will probably be more exciting in Beaumont.

Well parts of Port Artur to be exact, unless you like living in the ghetto...
