These posts on Big Springs do not bode well yet there must be something of value there. It takes a number of professionals to run a VA hospital so tell me, especially if you are a professional working at the VA, how long have you lived there and what has your experience been?

My needs are few. I prefer small towns yet need some place to get out into nature once in a while. I thought perhaps I could take 3 or 4 day weekends and fly up to Gila, Santa Fe something once in a while. Thinking of applying for a position there, buying a small house under $100K, keeping the one I currently have in another state, work 5-10 years, sell the Big Springs house and come back here to retire.

Is it possible/likely to get a fairly nice house in a good neighborhood for that? Crime rate?

there is a housing shortage in Big Spring. There's lots of crime in Big Spring.Your house probably wont be in the best neighborhood for under 100 k.
