Well I'll be moving from Lubbock come August. Most likely to Austin, but Houston's still a possibility. Hopefully I'll be avoiding their freeways unless I'm driving in or out of town.

My boss is from Lubbock. What do you call a person from Lubbock? Are they Lubbockites, Lubbockians? No shade just wondering.

Did people hear forget that 1604 is incomplete and some dumb-ass decided to put streetlights in this frequently used "freeway". Until SA fixes this mess, Houston has a better Highway system.

Also 281 north of the San Antonio Airport is almost a huge parking lot during rush-hour, so SA stiil has this common Urban problem (Traffic).

According to experience:
1. Houston
2. San Antonio
3. DFW (FW needs some work)
4. El Paso (The drivers suck)
5. Austin (The worst, and it is probably the reason they could have high rise condos)

I'm not as familiar with San Antonio. I lived on the westish side of Houston and the I-10 expansion really helped.

Austin has to be the worst. The city was not designed for how many people are there now

To provide some context:

Outside of an urban core, most city roads were historically highways. With highways, you can and do have traffic lights as you get near a town and then outside of town, you can speed. Still, as highways, no matter the speed limit, there are direct entrances/exits to land parcels (i.e. ranches, farms, gas,etc..). Most roads outside major cities still act this way.

As a city grows, some highways have remained the same and have become a part of the city street system (e.g. Fredericksburg Road or Austin Hwy in San Antonio).

Other highways have become expressways with entrance and exit ramps and frontage roads -- historically known as freeways (e.g. portions of San Pedro north of 410 in San Antonio became part of US-281). Yet other parts (north of LP-1604) remain a highway as before, albeit in "superstreet" form now. I use the term expressways since today, an expressway can be subdivided into a freeway or tollway.

LP-1604 is thus a highway and while portions of it have been converted into an expressway with frontage roads, there are other portions that are still highways... and yes, there are streetlights there as traffic has grown. The worst part is between Bandera and US-90 on the northwest and west side as the highway turns from an expressway into a highway, back into an expressway, and again back into a highway. Confusing to say the least and a major reason for the bottlenecks out there.
