Manhattans sure love West Texas. It seems every year, there's a story or two about some NYer making a rush here to "get back to the land" and away from the concrete jungle.

It's a fairly nice article, I must say. If anyone has never been to West Texas, I urge you all to take a trip there. Ever wondered if you could get sunburn from the stars and moon at night? That's how it feels when the dome of stars is upon you on a crisp night.

Bully for them. No one is forcing people to sell their property. If someone comes from out of state in search of pastoral realms and finds a seller willing to accommodate them, such is the seller's right. Is not Texas a believer in the liberty of contract and the right to dispose of one's private property as one sees fit? No skin off my nose. Better to see more artists communities sprout than nuclear waste dumps.

Speaking of which - USAA (insurance co.) magazine, latest issue, lists the "10 best retirement locales" in the USA. It's of course directed mostly at ex-military, but it's an interesting list, nonetheless.

No. 1 - WACO - believe it or not.
3 - Austin/Round Rock
4 - College Station/Brian
6 - San Angelo

I'm a bit surprised that San Antonio didn't make their list since that is where USAA is headquartered. But it does help explain, IMO, why four of ten are Texas locales.

I met John a little over a year ago. He's a really great guy and what he is doing is pretty awesome.

40 acres for $8K, now that is definitely a bargain, I don't care where.

Personally that's a bit too close to Mexico, I would think there may be some smuggling operations going on near where he is. Good he's packing.
