Default We are experiencing the greatest growth spurt in history(Texas)

and this in our lifetimes, right now....

Is it a good thing? Can we handle the growth? What happens if Texas' economy slows down, and they are stuck with all the people? Will they just up and leave again? Are there really enough jobs for all who come? Are they that desperate that they are willing to give up a union wage (20-30 an hour), for something 10-20? Are they going to be lifelong, committed Texans? Do lifelong Texans really want all these new people around? Will they change the style of Texas if they stick around?

Well?

Cheaper housing and a housing market that isn't in freefall should get some credit, too. Some areas of the country have seen housing values drop by 50%.

Well, jobs are a reason I hope to leave Texas, since I have had no luck finding anything decent here. I am trying my luck in Missouri, the only other place in the country that is not suffering from the economic downturn.

It happens. Like when millions of Southerners moved north and west after the Civil War, WWII and the Great Depression. And Michigan during the last 2 or 3 decades into Texas, my God is there anyone even left in that state?!

Scongress, I know alot of us have the same concerns as you do, as far as the state being able to handle it, whether these transplants stay or not or if they do stay, whether they'll be lifelong Texans. Will the state keep its roots, Southern/Western? I'm not counting other Southerners moving in because at least their culture is similar but geez, sometimes I think I'm in another state with all the nonsouthern/texan accents I hear!

Its all about jobs and cost of living really. The same thing happened in the 70's recession only more so now. If you can't find a job here sither you in the wrong field or your in the wrong part of Texas.
