I'd go with Galveston for more things to do.

Galveston has Moody Gardens, Shlitterbahn Water Park, Air Museum, & last but not least the historic Strand in downtown. You can also catch a cruise on Disney straight out of Galveston now something your 2 & 4 year old would totally dig.

Thanks again for all the replies. We have decided to go to Galveston just in case the beach doesn't work out so that we can have other alternatives. Enjoy your holiday weekend!

Google Texas beach cams..... Galveston has several and they are live shots...You will be able to see if there is any seaweed...
