I think you are getting bad advice: warm in Texas is easy, dry not so much - you need to be west. Look at small towns within an hours drive of El Paso, which has beautiful, rugged mountain terrain. An hour's drive from Midland would also work in terms of climate, but it is super-dumpy and ugly. And the panhandle, while dry, is frigid in the winter.

How is it "bad advice" when you are saying the same thing as a few other posters (including myself) before you advised? Also, I don't recall the original post caroing about how ugly the nearest major town or airport was. Besides, that is a completely subjective opinion, which doesn't hold alot of merit. There are many on here that feel Midland and El Paso are decent communities.

East Texas is beautiful. Tyler especially. It's about one and a half hours from Dallas.

Yes, it is very beautiful, but I don't think it meets the "dry" requirement of the OP. For a dry climate, you really need to look west.

My young daughter has severe arthritis, and has left Texas to live in a place that is easier for her body.

The only area I'd recommend would be the extreme southwest, as others have mentioned. A huge factor in so much of the state is constant weather shifts and frequent storm patterns. This wreaks havoc on arthritis sufferers.

Best of luck to you & hope you find a healthy spot that agrees!
