speak for your darn self. This Houstoner jumped at the chance to move BACK to Houston.

If you don't mean to start a flame war don't start one.

and what do you mean feels ore like Texas.

Texas has no feel. It is one of the most diverse states in terms of landscapes, areas, different native cultures etc.

Love living in Houston

Love Visiting the Brazos Valley Area, Love Big Ben Country and The Hill Country.

Love the smaller towns that have not yet been overtaken by fast food joints and Mexican Restaurants

Once you get west of Houston and leave the piney woods behind, probably at Waller, you start smelling BBQ instead of jambalaya and corn bread. Ray Wylie Hubbard comes on your radio instead of Garth Brooks. That's what I mean.

Houston seems greener/lusher with more trees than Dallas. How is that more concrete? To me, Dallas is only better if you want the place that is more sterile and sweeps their crud under the rug better. To each his own I guess.
I love having more clouds, especially in the Texas summer, when the sun beats down all day long in other areas of Texas.
I love the Texas beaches in winter, and being able to drive there in an hour or less. In the summer we want the nicer beaches in FL... again, those are a few hours closer to Houston than other TX locations.
I've lived in Central Texas / Austin, and no, I would not move back there just because I could have the same job. I love the museums, art, international/diverse crowd, true international airport, and notable culture Houston has that isn't available on the same scale (if at all) elsewhere in Texas.

I agree that Houston is different, but the change isn't that drastic. Not nowadays, atleast.

Barbecue is king in Houston (just like the rest of Texas and other southern states), and its definitely more popular than jambalaya.

I smell plenty of barbecue here, but probably not more than I smell chicken.

Dallas is concrete too but at least the climate is less wet and dreary in the winter.

I don't really care about diversity. I'm an immigrant from the Caribbean, I'm mixed race, and I've lived in the Middle East... So I don't need other people to be diverse.

I prefer the lush landscape that comes from the wetter climate.
In diversity, I'm not just talking about racial. I thoroughly enjoy meeting, working with, and living next to people from all over the world. I appreciate a diversity of foods, music, whatever. There's a significant difference between central Texas and Houston.

Georgia is an exaggeration, but I agree with everything else.

My favorites:

1. Houston - Stands out among the big cities in Texas. Diverse, lush, cosmopolitan, a certain uniqueness and vibe that is easy to fall in love with.

2. Dallas - Close second to Houston. It feels more Texan, sterile, less international and kinda bland. This honestly isn't meant to be a diss toward Dallas; that's just how I feel. Either way; I love it.

3. Fort Worth - Very laid-back and friendly feel. Opposite of Dallas.

4. Waco - Hometown and soon to be a hotspot in Texas. Mark my words.

5. Everything else.

Houston does not 'stand out' more than any other big city in the state. Yes, it's the largest and most well-known, but the city that stands out the most in Texas is definitely Austin, for better or worse.

man you see, smell and taste BBQ north south east west, North east, etc of Houston.

In Fact Houston is great because you get both the Texas Dry BBD and The Southern juicy BBQ. What is wrong with BBQ AND Jamabalaya and Corn Bread??

Thats the great thing about Houston, it is more than a one trick pony.

And Garth Brooks? Man what part of Houston did you live? Beaumont???

Austin doesn't stand out most.

That would probably be El Paso or Fort Worth. Austin is just marketed more

again, I hope you are speaking for yourself. I too grew up in the Caribbean and I love that not only Houston is diverse, the diversity isn't new. Love the long mixing of cultures Houston has had over the years
