Montrose has far greater character in its bars. Not everything is the same old standard commercial block. The wide use of old bungalows and old mini-Victorians as bars and cafes in Montrose is just about inimitable.

You don't find those types of awesome places like Bacchus, Mango Punch, Agora and Avant Garden up in Dallas.

You're not going to find truly bizarre commercial backstreet like Fairview up in plastic Dallas. Ziggy's, Taft St. Coffee...that kind of commercial architectural style and vibe, nope.

And the Montrose is actually vibrant. Just not in a predictable way along the likes of Little Five Points or Melrose or Oaklawn...

Listen....Ive seen all montrose had to offer...too many times....Oaklawn is just a more whole and connected area than montrose and im sticking by that statement.

Thank you Trae for this lovely thread and for starting it knowing full well that it was going to turn into the same garbage as every other Dallas/Houston thread.

Must appreciated.

Doesn't really matter. ANYTHING on this forum turns into Houston vs. Dallas.

We could be talking about streetcars in El Paso and that would some how turn into Houston vs. Dallas....

"Connectivity" is nothing more than an excuse for PREDICTABILITY.

You ain't gonna find awesome one-of-a-kind places like Taft St., Agora Ka, Byzantios, Bacchus, Cecil's Pub, Avant Garden...great cafes/coffee houses set in oddball structures up in plastic Dallas...and...that's that.

Dallas has its appeal. But is it superior to H-town? Um...no way. Houston has a unique character missing in "connected" places like Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles...

And this is just an excuse to cover the fact that montrose is blotchy and spread out and confusing. It always feels like your passin thru. Theres no focal point. just random joints thrown in with gas stations and fast food.

It's not an excuse. Montrose is the way it is. The walk from Bacchus to Agora Ka then to the Poison Girl bar...there's nothing confusing about that.

Walking from Avant Garden to Katz's 24 hour restaurant...nothing confusing about that.

Oh, wait...the Montrose isn't structured like some little clean, tidy "urban" Disney structure ala Oak Lawn or Little 5 Points....those Santa Monica/Melrose-wanna be areas.

If I want "focal point" or nicely packaged...there's the Rice Village for that.

The Montrose wins on its own peculiar and UNIQUE character. Just like Houston.

If thats the feel you got from visiting those areas then Dallas is doing a good job.
