Uptown Dallas doesn't have buildings crammed this close together.
And with all the Medical Center density, boy is this area dead. Very little to almost no retail, same with housing. The nearby Hermann Park is very nice though.

So we're comparing Dallas and Houston skylines now?

.... meh, it's just like the San Fran vs. Dallas thread in that both cities have different advantages (SF with the surroundings, density, and number of buildings and Dallas with the diversity and orientation of the buildings) so I can't even begin to truly compare the two.

Houston is massive with highrises and skyscraper stretching the landscape. Dallas is more diverse in architecture with better style and unique looks from different angles.

Oh and to go with what Matt was saying about stadiums... YES, actually a stadium can be a major or at least notable part of the skyline like Toronto.

You can see The SkyDome (Rogers Centre) there. The thing is, stadiums are only visable parts of the skyline:

- from certain distances
- if they are large/high enough
- if the surrounding buildings are short enough for the stadium/arena to be a major component of the skyline, OR it's seperated just enough from the taller buildings to stand out

The only stadium in downtown Houston that could even remotely be considered a major part of the skyline is Minute Maid.

I'll say this about Houston that I can't really say about Dallas. A couple of Houston's non-downtown skylines are dense enough to be skylines for other cities. I don't really see that with Dallas since Uptown seems to connect well with downtown and Las Colinas doesn't count in my book since it's in Irving.

There are apartments & high rise condos all around the Med Center what are you talking about? My friend used to live within walking distance of Reliant Arena, Med Center, & the light rail line. During Texans games he didn't have to park, just walk from his apartment.

Retail you are correct. There is none around there.

Food establishments in the Med Center there is quite a selection. Everything from Subway to authentic Filipino cuisine & pasteries.

I'm familiar with that area. I was just referring to within the density you showed in the pic.

What do you expect its the largest medical center in the world.

Nobody is going to live "inside" the medical center.

Who lives in a hospital anyways unless you are sick?
