The states of Oklahoma and Louisiana are hoping that Texans do not come to their senses.
Not only them but Nevada too.

It's not about access. I've been to one casino in my life (Montreal) and personally don't care about having easy access to casinos. On the other hand, I know people who run up to OK often. I'd rather that $$$ stay in our state, and I don't appreciate politicians bending to crooked lobbyists and then pretending it's about morality. It's completely warped.

There are a lot of people besides Republicans and churchy people who don't like and don't want casinos in Texas. It has much broader appeal than the simple-minded would like to think. It can't be conveniently boxed into one group.

You're right, I'm both not churchy and am very liberal and I think that state sponsored gambling is wrong, just another way to prey on the weak.

Exactly. I don't recall Ann Richards doing anything to bring gambling to Texas.

Actually Ann Richards pushed the lottery. I heard her say they would use the money for education and I think that went a long way in getting it passed. My mother was very anti-lottery so I specifically remember discussing Gov Richards speech about it trying to help my mother feel better when it passed. I can't say I recall Gov Richards wanting casinos but I was too young for them anyway. I don't even want to think how that would have affected my mother. My mother-in-law on the other hand recently went to LA to gamble but wouldn't bother to drove across town for Grandparents Day at my kids school so obviously casinos are very important to some people. I don't really care much for them myself so I don't mind not having them in the least.
