Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Biloxi...Do we really want a Texas city to join that list? I'm not a social conservative by ANY stretch of the imagination, but sorry, I'd rather see that trash stay across the borders.

There are some pretty cool casinos in Vegas and Atlantic City that I would mind having in my backyard. What I do not want is the small local depressing casinos you see in cities and states that allow limited gambling in small quantities.

I can think of a few places that allow gambling in small quantities where the small, local casinos aren't depressing at all.

What's wrong with having tourists spend their money in our state?
Besides, I thought conservatives were 100% behind market freedom "Let the market decide" and small government.

As with most things there are negatives and positives associated with gambling casinos. But, there are always unintended consequence, sometimes good but often bad. Personally I could care less about gambling one way or the other but if it ever comes up for a vote, make sure your decision is well thought out and that you consider ALL possible consequences.

And, by the way, Casinos on Indian land do not have to follow state gambling laws. Indian land is considered independent. Many tribes here in CA have casinos on their land that do not comply and don't have to with the state gambling laws. I don't think it would be different in Texas so perhaps the one mentioned previously wasn't getting the business expected or there were other problems.

I guess the only question remains.... how ignorant was your post?
My post wasn't about New Yourk, Vermont or Mississippi. It was about Texas. And it wasn't ignorant. If you read the proposed legislation each session and the arguments against gambling in Texas, you will see that much of it is based on religious subtext.

Personally, I would have loved to see part of the old Mueller airport in Austin turned into a five or six casino gambling zone with free bus fare to 6th street. The economic impact for Austin would have been incredible. Instead, we have another Bed, Bath and Beyond and other retail stores that can be found anywhere in the city.

Native Americans have had their land, rights, water and natural resources stolen. What they have now in form of a reservation means nothing. Tribes nationwide have tried to put up wind generators, solar panels, etc only to be told, no..not allowed.

This is completely unacceptable. The day I crack the 6 figure mark, half of it will be donated to a tribe of my choice for land.

Everyone I know wants casino gambling here in Texas, and we want that revenue to be available to the Native American tribes. Texas needs the tourism dollars and the jobs that would be created. It makes me sick how much Texas money is exported to OK and LA. Those states have some powerful lobbyists, obviously, lining the pockets of our politicians - disgraceful! All I can do is keep making my opinion known to our representatives and keep trying to vote them out of office...eventually, hopefully, Texans will get sick of the greedy and the bible thumpers trying to run our lives.

They don't want Bedford Falls turning into Pottersville.
