Hello everyone.I'm 23 and a junior in college.I currently live in Midland.I am looking to possibly move after my graduation.I am thinking it will be time to get serious about dating and finding the right girl to spend the rest of my life with at that point.I am Church of Christ....so that got me to start considering Abilene.I have postponed my plans to live in San Angelo. So any and all information about the girls in Abilene would be appreciated specifically the Church of Christ ones.I am into tall girls because I am 6'2 so are there very many tall and attractive girls in Abilene. Also, will I get much flak for being a beer drinker in Abilene?I know its a religious town.I don't get drunk, I just stop at one. Also, if anyone has Church of Christ recommendations in mind that would be appreciated....ive got 2 in mind.I figured I might get a job working at ACU at that time. Thanks in advance.

Abilene native here, and I've lived in Abilene as a single person for many years. Highland Church of Christ is probably going to be the best place to meet Christian single women. I've been over there a few times with some friends and they used to have a nice sized singles group there. It's been over ten years since I've been there though, so I don't know what it's like there now. I used to be attend the Pioneer Drive Baptist Church singles group, but it's a much smaller group now than when I was attending there. From what I've heard, First Baptist Church has a pretty good singles group too. Of course, those are both Baptist churches so I don't know how you'd feel about going to one of those groups.

As far as tall women are concerned, it's really hard to say. Personally, I haven't met very many tall women in Abilene that are also attractive but that may just be my personal experience...lol.

As far as the beer drinking goes, I doubt that you would get much flak about that as long as you drink at home. If you drink alcohol too often or wanted to go to the bars every night, most of the single women at the churches probably won't be interested in you.

I hope this information helps!

Okay thanks TTDave....I also have looked up Baker Heights and Oldham Lane Church of Christ.Well, thanks but Im not into Baptist churches.I guess its worth a shot.I figure I would give Abilene 4 to 5 years.I do most of my drinking at home.Im not much of a bar person but maybe a nice bar every now and then would be okay.I only drink one when I do.

Maybe young people pay more attention to those differences nowadays but forty five years ago this Southern Baptist traveled all the way across Texas to fall in love with a Catholic girl. Now that may not seem odd since most of deep east Texas where I came from was at that time Southern Baptist and at least half of the girls in the small South Plains town where my wife lived was Catholic because of the Hispanic population. Oddly, my wife's family just happened to be one of the very few white Catholic families in town.

The short end of this story is that, in regard to relationships, sometimes your head may tell you one thing but your heart tells you something else. I'm glad I listened to my heart instead of my head back then. I'm still with that same woman and a relationship that began as a young attraction has now become a mature and tremendous love.

But back to the subject at hand; I apologize but I know little about Abilene and even less about the women there. However, I can wish you the best of luck, or whatever it takes, to find the right partner for life. It does happen.

Oh I think you are right. I've seen so many marriages of friends not work out because the marriage just could not surmount the huge differences the bride and groom brought to the table. In the past few years I have come to realize that it was not luck that brought my wife and I together. I believe now that it was because someone cared about me even at a time in my life when I didn't believe in miracles.

One thought: what kind of degree are to getting? Will you even be able to find work in Abilene? Sure, a great church home and finding a wife are important, but if you can't find work using your degree, and you have to work retail to get by, you will be pretty miserable...

I would strongly encourage you to consider a major where you will be able to be gainfully employed using a bachelors degree. With those degrees, you should plan on being a grocery store bagger. Seriously. You will not get a good job in those fields unless you have at least a Masters degree, and in Sociology, you need a PhD. My husband has a BA in History, but thankfully, the Army was happy to take him in through OCS. If he had tried to work in the civilian world, he wouldn't have been able to do anything that paid a living wage.

The competition for office staff positions in Abilene is fierce. These positions do not come open unless someone retires or moves away, and even then, there will be many applicants.
