I'm a single 50+ woman looking to relocate to Texas. Lived in West Texas & San Antonio for 20+ years and loved it. I've been gone 6 years too long. Would prefer the northern part of the state either E. or W.

Like some others I would love to find a Mayberry town. In reality, a Christian community with great tamales would suit me just fine.

Yes, I do need to work so that will come into play also. A low cost of living is a deciding factor for me.

Does anyone here know anything about Rusk or Big Spring Texas?

I will appreciate all replies.

whats your budget.......Big Spring is a horrible town......water and sewer main breaks poor education system, meth production and other drugs, gangs, violence, state hospital, prisons, refinery that blew up in 2008, and a cost of living that is sky high.

That sounds like Abilene to me, with Abilene Christian College being one of the main draws there. Lubbock is another one with a strong Christian school and church presence (Lubbock Christian College). Both towns have a lower cost of living than those closer to the major metro centers. San Angelo would be a good choice also, IMO.

The cost of living in Abilene and San Angelo will only go up further if the Cline develops to its full potential. Angelo is starting to really boom and housing is getting worse. Expect the same in Abilene in a few years.

This is very true. Can barely get a hotel room in San Angelo right now.

I hate to say it, but something seems to be not optimal in Big Spring. It just seems very run-down, and while I am sure there are fine folks there, the town suffers from crime, much of it brought in by cartels domestic and foreign. It's sad because it's actually a prettier setting than much of West Texas.

San Angelo would suit you well. Abilene tends to cause some prickly heat but only a very few days of humidity occur in San Angelo. Snyder is nice. Many swear by Brady.

Stephenville might meet your criteria. Nice small town 18,000 with a university and some western flavor.

I think Howard County is prettier too.

Big Spring is not a nice place, and there's no way I'd recommend living there.

San Angelo would be my first recommendation. You'd be among many similar age people, and it really is a nice place to live. Pity that the oil boom is hitting it and making housing scarce.
