I was taught you pee on the sting. Or Vinegar. The acid in either will neutralize the venom.

FORGET THE URINE! Urine has not been scientifically proven to help in jellyfish stings. It can actually be harmful.
Vinegar is the best first treatment when treating stings from North American jellyfish.

I recall being stung by a jellyfish in Galveston as a little kid, but I was really, really young at the time. Can't remember what treatment was used, but it was about 1970.

Cool thanks for that info.. I know better now.

A word of caution about vinegar: Studies suggest that vinegar actually worsens the pain of Portuguese Man of War, bluebottle, and other Physalia stings. These creatures are dangerous look-alikes to jellyfish. Vinegar has been shown to cause nearly 30% of Physalia nematocysts to fire.

*Jose Cuervo, *Jack Daniels, whatever.
Or, do like me, just stay on the beach and get a good burn.

* DOWN your throat, not on the wound.

This is probably the most painful and dangerous invertebrate envenomation in Texas. Unless you have a latent allergy or get absolutely covered by stinging tentacles it's more of an inconvenience than anything, but as a previous poster mentioned, meat tenderizer with an ice pack is probably the best thing you can do. Keep in mind that these creatures evolved this method of venom delivery over millions of years. You aren't going to be able to un-do it in 15 minutes. Just have to wait it out and not get stung again.
