I am interviewing this week for a position at Texarkana, TX. My wife and I have been looking at the available housing. The prices in some areas seem reasonable, but are there certain areas best avoided?

We're looking at the houses in the area between North State Line and Sabine Ave/North Park Rd.

I've read that Wake Village is a nice area, and Pleasant Grove, but we may not be able to afford housing in those areas at first.

Use the map with the data filter. Using the different filters, you should be able to get a good handle on what the good areas are and what to avoid.

If you go to Texarkana, you'll easily tell what areas to avoid. I've been gone from there since 2005 but I lived in Pleasant Grove on Bamboo Street (was a single female in my 20s-30s when I was there), in New Boston, in some apartments on Summerhill just north of Interstate, and just off Stateline on West 40th and felt completely safe in all the different locations. It's pretty evident there where it's safe and where it's less safe, although I never once felt unsafe in the 10 years I lived there....and I roamed that city from top to bottom!

What is the deal with Texarkana? It seems like the redheaded stepchild of Texas that no one ever mentions.

Too far east. Too industrial. Too black. Too much Arkansas and Louisiana. Not enough Texas. Birthplace of musical genius. Same as Beaumont-Port Arthur.
