I drove from Bastrop to Austin and I think the traffic was pretty bad.

Other than the fact that it's by far the most wildfire prone town in Texas, it's a great place to live.

The commute between Austin and Bastrop is by far the best you will find in the Austin area. Great thing about Bastrop is you have most things you need in town without having to make the drive to Austin. It still has a small town feel, and very friendly for the most part.

Type in Bastrop fires and you will see what thenewtexan is talking about. During a drought, there are alot of trees in Bastrop. Fire once started seems to spread quickly.

That fire in 2011 could have been a one in a 100 year fire. That time period was either the worst or 2nd to the worst period of heat and dryness in Texas in the last 100 years. I would think, I haven't driven thru there since the forest fire, but when it occurred, the news showed much of the area destroyed, the LOST PINE area, as it called. So I would think the area lost most of it's Scenicness, lol, or forest beauty, which really HAD set the area off as unique.

Someone, update me, how does it really LOOK, compared to before the fire. I'm not talking about traffic, commute or the like.

I saw a whole lot of dead burned-up trees so you are right that Bastrop lost a lot of its beauty. However,I still was impressed with the town.

West of Bastrop is fine.

East of Bastrop, heading towards Houston there is still a very large area of burnt out trees that haven't recovered yet. It's pretty creepy in certain weather conditions. That fire was unfortunate.

Yes, you can see them adjacent to Hwy 71 when you come into Bastrop from the East. It does kind of look eerie.
