Gonna be hot. There'll be some tornado watches and torrential downpours, but mostly...

Hot.

Hot. That's my prediction. Oh wait, that's my prediction for summer every year in Texas!

But yes, I stand by that. Hot. Hotter than last summer.

Right now, there's a developing La Nina over the Pacific. As that signal starts kicking in through the summer, it will displace the subtropical ridge farther north, over the Midwest/Northeast/Mountain West. This will create a heatwave for those northern sections of the US, whereas Texas could experience periods of cooler relief, due to tropical waves and sea-breeze that undercut the ridge - this would be more true for the southern half of Texas, from the Gulf Coast west to the Rio Grande, whereas northern areas of the state would experience more heat being closer to the effects of the ridge.

The cool relief would be even more enhanced with an MJO Pulse. Right now, the signal has been stuck over Africa, causing convection over that continent, while allowing constant surges of Saharan dust (SAL) outbreaks to reach Texas and the Southern US. As the pulse starts propagating eastward, through the Indian and Pacific oceans, it will increase tropical moisture within the Gulf and Atlantic, which greater chances to reach Texas (especially if the Bermuda High is strong and cohesive).

Of course, this also implies a much stronger hurricane season for the Gulf and Atlantic later this summer. Something to look out for, especially with current events that have been happening so far in the US.
