This country music festival was just announced for Conroe. It made me realize. There are no big country music festivals in Texas? That’s weird. Even Fort Lauderdale has a decent sized one

Doesn't need to be BIG...

You can just come to Luckenbach nearly 365 days / yr.
I prefer Texas Heritage music fest type events

Tho I live <5 min from an 'alternative' music venue. ~18 day festival w/ 30,000+ attendees (since 1972)+ 2x / yr now + 'other' events... with more than a few 'newcomer' country stars passing through during the last 50+ yrs.

Yes I know. There’s plenty of smaller country music events. Which is great. And then there’s the Houston Rodeo; while not a music festival is a traditional country lineup. As well as the SA rodeo

But what I mean is it’s a big strange that Texas of all states lacks a major country music festival. I find that strange considering there’s large ones in other much smaller states. How is there not one here considering it’s… Texas! But hey Conroe is trying to tap into this untapped market so let’s see how that goes.

Larry joe Taylor is the biggest one I know about.

What bands play at the one in Fort Lauderdale? If it’s radio country then that’s probably why. I’m not sure it would be as big of a hit in texas.

Tortuga Music Festival. To be fair they throw a non country artist here and there but it’s mostly country music. And mostly non radio with a couple radio acts like Rhett and Combs. It even shares a headliner as the one in Conroe.

Anyway. This would now make Conroe festival is now the biggest (as far as the lineup is concerned). It’s just surprising to me that in Texas of all places a major country music festival hasn’t existed when they have existed in other states for years. Tortuga, Carolina Country Fest, Stagecoach, and obviously the CMA Fest. And so forth. There was also the unfortunate Vegas event.

Anyway, I disagree on it being surprising that they succeed in places like South Florida and Vegas. Because people love to travel there. They’re more touristy than Texas. It’s just surprising that it hasn’t happened yet in Texas but there’s been plenty of successful ones elsewhere. Austin could surely pull it off. I’ll hope for Conroe’s success here

There are music venues and festivals all over the place here in Texas. Many of the fests and concerts I've been to over the past 30 years involve country music.

Correct. However, there's no major country music festival in Texas.

Maybe because there are so many lil ones that it is oversaturated. IDK, I don't mind the older stuff, but what currently passes for country is just too overformulated for me.

Love me some Dolly though. Even her newer stuff.
When I was a kid I used to say Kenny Rodgers was my Daddy.

Of course who doesn't love Tammy Wynett and Loretta Lyn. Throw in some Jonny Cash.

Nope. Nashville has less population than all major Texas cities and they have tons of smaller country festivals in addition to the CMA Fest. Probably more than Texas proportionally speaking.

The one in Conroe is a start though. And I predict another will come in Austin or Fort Worth in due time.

Exactly. I don’t think the demand is there in Texas. People aren’t gonna pay 2-300 or whatever for that festival when you can go to a Texas country festival (with frankly much better artists) for a fraction of the cost.
