No, in the Rio Grande Valley- drug smuggling capitol, not to mention highest crimes rate in the state.

While I have no doubt that alot of drugs are smuggled over the boarder in this area, I would also have concerns about not knowing Spanish, being a rather extreme minority, and my very caucasion kids having to deal with things down there.

Otherwise, SPI and the surrounding RGV is a great place to be, as long as you don't mind the extreme periods of heat. I really like the area, and would like to make more visits. Perhaps late this spring I can look into doing that.....

Drug smuggling capitol only means that the things you want are cheaper.

I just looked at the city-data.com crime statistics and what do you know, not the highest crime rates in the city.

Although SPI does has insanely high crime rates, but I would say that's due to the insanity that is Spring Break.

Well, the amount of Police they put in place for that 2 week period accounts for most of the crime there statistically, but remember in SPI I felt it's deserted 50 weeks a year?

It's for a select few who would enjoy that lifestyle - again, save your hard earned $$ and buy in FLorida
