What about Amarillo? I just visited up there, and was seemingly really nice place, pretty city, friendly people...

I grew up in El Paso. Did you know it is ranked as one of the safest cities in the USA? We use to joke they put something in the water to cause that. El Paso was great to grow up in. Lots to do and Ft Bliss provided us with new people to meet. And talk about great food! There are much worse places to live trust me. If I named them you'd surely screech!

No city is better than the other. How many times does that have to be said? I voted "all"

Here's another vote for Amarillo! (Sometimes it seems like all of us Texans up here in the panhandle are unwanted stepchildren!)

San Antonio and Austin are running away from the rest of the pack. I moved to San Antonio a year ago sight unseen, I guess we made the right decision. I cannot comment on any other city except Austin, because I have not been able to visit any of them. Having family in Austin, we often make the drive up there, and it seams like a pleasant place to live. We have been pretty happy with our decision to move to San Antonio. It's a great place to raise a family.

San Antonio has varying terrain where it is flat in the city and hilly in the northern suburbs. I'd rather live there than some overrated small-town called Austin. I voted for Houston since it is my hometown and it is becoming the Chicago of the South and San Antonio got a lot of votes already. If Houston gets too expensive like Los Angeles then I can move to the Las Vegas of Texas! The hills around Helotes are very beautiful. That's the area of S.A. that I want to live in.

Is the panhandle still part of Texas? I thought we gave it to Oklahoma as a peace treaty or something.

I think Lubbock is a great place to live! I was born and raised there. My husband and I have lived in Dallas and the Dallas area now for many years, but it's not "by choice" necessarily if you know what I mean. Even my "Dallas-born" husband preferred to stay in Lubbock. Lubbock may not be scenic but it has friendly people, good amenities-restaurants and the like, Texas Tech University, access to good medical care and most of all...LOW HUMIDITY!! (The only negative Lubbock has at all that I can see is that it has dust storms in the Spring, but hey, I would put up with those again to enjoy the low humidity! )
