Hello everyone, I am curious on your opinion of the lakes in Texas. We currently live north of Houston and looking for something with more to offer. We love the water and would love to live on a lake. The only problem is we haven't had a chance to look around.

Really it doesn't matter. If it's a great place I will be willing to move. I have been looking north of Dallas if that gives you any indication.

Lake Texoma is certainly worth considering - 1 hr north of the Metroplex. It's a huge lake and has a lot of small towns and school districts up and down it (about 50 miles long). The most developed end is the east end near Denison Dam. Most of the kids there go to school in Pottsboro, which is an excellent school district (I would never put my child in Denison schools, however, even tho it's much larger). There are some nice homes in Tanglewood, which is right on the water, and in and around Pottsboro itself. It's all just about 8-10 miles from the shopping/dining area between Sherman/Denison.

Possum Kingdom is great and beautiful but I would also vote for Texoma - around Preston Peninsula as GayleTX suggests. It's an absolutely gigantic lake - it's surrounded by cedars and oaks, rocky cliffs and hills - it even has islands!

Possum Kingdom is one of the most beautiful lakes I have ever seen, and it's only about an hour's drive from the DFW metroplex. I'm not sure about the schools in that area.

Part of the shore is in Palo Pinto ISD, most of it is in Graford ISD, and a small portion is in Graham ISD.
P.P. ISD and Graford ISD are Recognized, Graham is rated "Academically Acceptable."
