Howdy. We have a very nice long-time gun shop here with excellent customer service, really nice people and knowledgeable about the law. Believe it or not, the staff who run the gun counter at Wallyworld are also very nice and helpful.

We could very much use another gun range, something more sophisticated. I think another gun shop would do well, too, especially if they had more of a selection of antique guns. Conservatives are arming themselves well and storing up ammo. Many of us feel trouble is coming.

Midland has many youth sports. The leagues are well-supported and many playing fields have been created for them and are high quality.

When you fly out, you will notice one of the best things about Midland: The airport. Parking right at the door, cars are safe there, not crowded, people helpful, etc. God Bless Southwest airlines.

I teach here. All of the schools, both public and private, could use improvement. The problems stem from lack of control, and that lands right back in the parents' lap, as despite being a conservative place, they have millions of excuses as to why THEIR child shouldn't have to meet standards or play by the rules. With a new superintendent, the slump the schools are in may change. The math program here is terrible. Again, there is hope for change. For such a small city, Midland is immersed in lots of political battles. Yet quite a few of the public school students do well and go on to attend excellent colleges. But overalll, there is little emphasis on higher ed here, and I wish that would change. We have a small community college but unfortunately it has decided to abandon its college-level programs in order to serve the high school community with dual-credit courses, and has now changed into a Hispanic Serving Institution and gets those Federal monies that go along with that change.

Crime here is increasing as the demographics change but Midland is extremely safe compared to anything else its size. This is due to the sheriff's department. Forget the city cops; you want the deputies.

Our weather is excellent here. Anyone who complains about it must not have lived elsewhere.
