Hello! I am a TV producer and I have two children, a baby boy and a baby girl.
I am planning to go to a safer place to give them more opportunities in the future.

I searched a lot and decided to go Toronto, to study and know the place, but I don't know if it's better to go to Toronto or to Mississauga, to scape from violence and have a quiet neighborhood.
Which one is the best?
What are the best neighborhood?

We like quiet places, we don't go out at tonight every week and we prefer to walk to supermarkets and other places. It's to stay for an year.

We are planning to go next year and study, but we don't like to live near colleges or universities.

Can someone help us?

I would always suggest Toronto for anyone more in the arts and culture and wants a more walkable lifestyle. There are pockets of Toronto that are more quiet then others. Safety in Toronto is not a huge issue. It all depends on your budget. More money more choice.

Thanks! Do you think Toronto is better for the kids?

Money, money... It isn't everything, but helps a lot!

depending if you want to live in a real city, or a cheaper, quieter but utterly boring suburb. Plus, I don't think Mississauga is affordable any more.

I agree with botticelli. Miss. lack culture and character in comparison to the city. Not as easy to get to things to do. There is much more to do for kids and adults in the city. Also much more walkable. There are pockets of Toronto where you can get the best of both ex not too noisey, but still close to things. Miss. is also not that cheap. You may have to compromise on home size ... but in my opinion it is worth it.

Yeah... Being cheaper is a nice thing.
Where in Toronto I can find a safe and not noisy neighborhood to live?
Thanks a lot for your answers!

You probably have a wrong impression of Toronto. It is not New York or Tokyo. It is by no means a highly congested and noisy city that is busy 24/7. It is far from that.

Outside downtown, which is probably 5% of the city where you probably won't choose anyway, and a few pockets elsewhere, the entire city is largely quiet and uneventful. There are dozens of neighbourhoods that are purely residential, with trees, houses and lawns, the kind of stuff suburban folks are used to. In fact outside downtown, there are very few areas you could describe as "noisy" - St Clair West, Queen East/beaches and probably North York city are a few examples.

In terms of safety, except for a few pockets, the entire city is safe. So is Mississauga.

If you need a cheaper home within the city, usually the farther away from the subway lines, the cheap it is. Not hard to see because we have only two lines. The very northwest and northeast are probably the most affordable places in the city, however, they may be more isolated. Areas between Bloor and the 410, east of Yonge but west of Leslie tend to be most expensive. Keep in mind that property tax is higher in Mississauga than in Toronto.

This is a house price map, 3 years out of date (today it is probably 50% higher) but in relative terms, it is still helpful

Thanks! I made my mind (I'll make my husband too!).
Toronto is the best choice.

My biggest worry is my children, but I searched a lot and I saw I can trust in Toronto.
I just lived in very big cities and I am tired of this way of life.
But, with children, we need the big cities facilities.
Toronto seems To be a big but no noisy city.

Now, our mission is to find a nice neighborhood.
I'm going to study marketing or advanced tv production.
I will find the best course for me.

Thanks a lot. We will continue planning our trip and move, 'cause we intend to go as soon as possible.
