One of the car repair services has brought up the seals for front cam & crank shaft, idler pulleys w/bearings & intake spark plugs...all of which probably need attending to as I bought the truck in 2003 with 70K miles & haven't gotten into any of these repairs.
All parts will be Toyota with the exception of water pump/seals. I know this is an interference engine & if my timing belt blows there goes the engine...
Estimate was $1,500
I love my 4Runner & plan on keeping it. Thoughts?

I am a tech @ a Toyota dealership and also a fellow 2000 4runner owner and $1500 is about average for the work you have talked about. Im sure they were talking about replacing your Intake manifold gaskets as they must come off in order to replace your valve cover gaskets. Its a good rule of thumb to not re-use metal gaskets.
Also, just a clarification, the 3.4L engine in our 4runners is NOT an interference motor. So you dont necessarily have to worry about bending valves if anything happens with your T-belt.
As far as the seals go, they can be done in less than 10 min, unlike stated above. That includes both cam seals and the crank seal. But dont get me wrong, it is still an overall very labor intensive job.
At our dealership, labor times are as follow:
Timing belt 3.0
Water Pump 1.0
Seals 1.0
Valve Cover Gaskets 3.0
Spark Plugs 0.5 (if done while performing Valve Cover Gaskets)
but 1500 i would say is a fair price, unless you were local to me, i would do it as a side job for a lot cheaper than that :-)
hope this helps
